Like AMF buying Harley...
I was riding Harleys during the AMF years.
The ones I rode had their share of problems, but were still a better choice than the junk coming out of Europe and Japan at the time.
Apparently, the pre AMF bikes were much better, I don't know.
What I do know is that had AMF not bought Harley, the company would probably have ceased to exist, making it much more difficult for the post AMF era to happen.
