they would develop for Leica R if they bought the company. if i were
Panasonic, i would. i am guessing that no matter what happens, Leica will
not exist as a separate company in 2 years. they are selling the Leica R
digital back at $4500 using a Kodak sensor. unless they sell a boatload of
them, they are going to lose money on the entire development effort. another
company not doing so great is Rollei. it also put its head in the sand like
Leica with respect to digital.

I would be surprised if they went Leica R. According to reports on the
Leica forum, Leica is in deep financial trouble and may not be around much
longer.
