I missed this somehow yesterday. Myself I think the 400 prime was probably a better lens optically than the 135-400 but I can't comment through experience. I know my 300 f/4 with 1.4x EX TC is better optically. The 135-400 is really useful when you're not quite sure what you'll come across and need to react fast. APO optics seem to totally eliminate CA on my film bodies anyway. The two negative comments I could make are: 1. The lens extends a lot when zoomed to the long end giving a precarious balance on camera/tripod unlike the primes inner focusing. 2. The EX converters will not fit due to the proximity of the rear lens element. John
