I would want no less performance latitude and noise wise than the *ist D provides. So assuming that APS sized sensors can be produced to 8MP as good as our current 6MP sensors scaled to 24x36mm that would make it an 18MP sensor. That would be pretty damn good, probably as good as 645 on film.
