My "normal" for the *istD since I bought it in July was the 28-70 f/4 zoom I already had. I wasn't entirely happy with this, since I'd been using 50mm f/1.4 or 1.7 lenses on my film SLR bodies as a normal. Just acquired a 28 2.8 to use as normal on the *istD, and although it's a bit slower than I'd like (I'd like a normal for the *istD that's as fast as my 50mms) I am finding it very usable.
