I'd like to ask *ist DS owners regarding their experience with this camera so far. Yay or nay? Any problems encountered? Ease of use? Any feature you wish it had? Satisfaction so far? ...
Since I bought the *ist DS and a few Pentax lenses at the beginning of January, I haven't used any of my other cameras (Canon 10D kit, Konica Minolta A2, couple others), and I've sold about five other cameras I had and wasn't using then to fund additional lens acquisitions.
This is the camera that makes it for me. It returns me to what I loved so much about my old Nikon FM and FE2, why I had them for nearly 20 years: just enough features, compact and modest in weight, excellent quality, great lenses, not overbearingly expensive. Little extra or unnecessary.
What features do I wish it had? Well, I haven't missed these yet, but
- the built in wireless flash capability would be nice (you can have wireless but you need to buy two flash units)
- a C-AF mode that was selectable outside of the Sports preset
Frankly, I'd pretty much like the same camera with those two additions but with a durable magnesium skin. If Pentax releases something like that this summer, I'll buy it instantly. If not, I'll buy another DS body.
