1.) 9MP or better, (would give a bit more cropping room and a touch more quality in large prints). 8mp isn't that tempting.
2.) Aperture simulator, (this should start an argument), but keep the aperture wheel, there are times when it's damned convenient.
3.) ISO visible somewhere at all times.
4.) 1.3 Crop factor. (They could make the viewfinder a bit larger at that point, as large an image as a ZX-5n).
5.) Faster Frame rate, at least as fast as the Ds.
6.) Keep the PC socket.
7.) Faster shutter speed (1/8000)
Some nice touches that I'd like to see.
1.) Have the frame counter count the number of frames taken, as a selectable option.
2.) USB 2.0 or Firewire support.
3.) Histogram available when the image first displays when chimping, (that's the only real reason to do it anyway), as a menu option.
4.) B&W option, (if it offers a higher resolution otherwise why bother).
5.) High strength Metal Shell.
Overall I'm fairly happy with the ergonomics. There have been some complaints about the Card ejector, but I don't have any more trouble getting a card out than I have loading film, (not in the D so I don't want any wise a** comments). The joystick control is a bit fiddly until you get used to it but once I did I've had no real problems with that either. My only concern is that Pentax will move the controls around, the *ist-D is enough like the Ds to make you look in the wrong places for some things. The grip could be reshaped slightly, but the body doesn't have to be as small as the *ist-Ds.

It seems that Pentax may soon be coming out with a replacement for the istD. How many istD owners would be interested in trading in the D for the newer camera, and what features or improvements would be needed in order to make that choice?

I can understand why mankind hasn't given up war. During a war you get to drive tanks through the sides of buildings and shoot foreigners - two things that are usually frowned on during peacetime.
