You are correct. However, except in severe cases, It's not how we
perceive things. In real situations, as opposed to viewing a
photograph) our brain imposes itself between "seeing" and
"perceiving."


As a photographer, I feel it important that I see what's in front of me, with as much separation from the impediment of perceiving what I would like to see as possible.
