FS Friday: A* 300mm F2.8

It's back one more time.... 

I purchased my A* 300mm F2.8 lens from another list member about five years
ago and I rarely use it.  It is super clean, optically, mechanically, and
cosmetically.  Comes in its aluminum trunk case and includes the original 
leather front cap and rear cap.  B&H lists it new for (gasp) $5152.50.  I 
also have a similarly-clean A2X-L teleconverter that matches the lens.
The lens and teleconverter, combined with a *ist-D or *ist-Ds, would make a 
superb wildlife/bird photography setup (900mm-equivalent at F5.6!).  Here's

This is a pretty big-ticket item and I'd much rather sell it to a PDML 
member than play the eBay game.  I've offered it up a couple of times here 
and had some interest, but no takers.  My last asking price for the lens 
itself was $1500 plus actual shipping costs. 

Still interested but $1500 too much?  Make me an offer.  I'll be happy to 
supply pictures of the lens on request.
