Huh? Pentax MF format (645) IS 35mm (Canon) high-end body size. It is in fact
smaller and lighter than similar cameras and lenses from Canon as long as we
are talking professional quality gear. For those who want 35mm body size
either stick to the *istD or buy a digital Rebel.

A Canon 1D is larger than Pentax MF so I assume you're not attached to 35mm
body size. The L lenses are equal in diametre to Pentax 645 lenses and
generally weight more. You won't find a professional quality zoom L-lens from
Canon that weighs 500g.
I know there are other reasons for buying a Canon than body size, but you
brought it up.....
Anyway, based on the recent interview theres no reason expect anything
particularly exciting anytime soon from Pentax. It is actually said that they
intend to move slowly; they'll start from scratch for their DSLR line and first
create a customer pool of entry level users and then gradually create upgrade
paths for this group eventually offering a complete line-up.
Their recent focus on DSLR will take at least couple of years until we see the
(first) results. A DSLR above the *istD seems to be scheduled for 2006 at the
earliest. At least thats how I interpret whats being said.
I'm glad I'm not in a hurry to buy a DSLR from Pentax...
