No, no! I'd consider an AC adapter an essential part of any battery-using camera kit!
Batteries are relatively expensive, and some of them quite costly!
AC essentially costs you nothing.
If you ever need to do any fussing around between camera and computer, some of which takes a lot of time, why waste batteries which you DO need for portable use?
I've had an AC adapter for my Canon, for my Konica Minolta, and for my Sonys. I've never used any of them.
My only real use for an AC adapter would be if I were to go into doing astrophotography or working static setups with remote control.
