Here's a Q&D adjustment using gaussian blur on the fireplace grate and a somewhat tighter crop. The area around the hair could be a lot better, but all you wanted was an idea, right. Bill's crop, while a good option, eliminates the background fire, which, imo, adds a nice, warm touch to the portrait.
