I would love to see Pentax pull from behind. Not sure they can, or will, or
want to. I suspect (and have no sound basis for this opinion) that North
America is not their primary market. Hence we are confused.

Crazy theory, but here it is. Pentax has admitted that they were surprised
by the demand for fine lenses being driven by the *ist-D and *ist-Ds.
Maybe
they're trying to duplicate this success with their 645 lens line.
