Marnie,
For me, Adobe Gamma works just fine.
FWIW it works fine for me too. In fact I will even do without any calibration at all, but this if after some years of serious work in the PS so I'm used to check numerical values of the colours using the eyedropper tool.
Bedo.

Huh? (Ears perking up, well, eyes perking up.)
Does this prove anything? What are you comparing the numbers to?
Please expound.
I compare the numbers found in the picture with those I had stored in my mind during endless hours of color correcting various pics for printing. It was my job in a small DTP studio back in the 90s. Therefore I can perhaps say I do have a color calibrated mind instead of the computer. :-)
It's like shooting without using the camera's onboard meter - all it needs is practising (well, usually lots of). But then you can probably make very good pics using any camera (even a pinhole one made from a paper box) or color correct pictures on a monochrome monitor for that matter (actually we did it in the dawn of the DTP).
Cheers,
Bedo.
