Ok, now that I've had a few days to mull it over, I have an idea. I'm
tentatively calling it "hacksaw enablement".
1. Retract the front standard into the body.
2. Remove the bed! (I don't know how to do this, but based on all
the maintenance I've done on my Crown, it's probably a pain in the
ass. Get a service manual. You might find more info at graflex.org.)
3. Mount either the front standard or the lens itself on a separate
tripod. (I don't know how to do this, either. Just thoughts.) It
would be cool if you could mount the lens much like you would mount a
super-tele. That way the front standard isn't supporting the weight
of the lens. This setup also allows for unlimited, although tedious,
movements front and rear simply by moving a tripod. Plus you could
say "My camera uses TWO tripods."
4. ?
5. Profit! No wait, this is photography. Spend all your money!
