I don't know which back you as speaking of but I have here a brochure for the Leaf Aptus 22 and the Sinarback eMotion22 (which definitely fits the Hasselblad V-series). Both these backs utilize the DALSA 22MP sensors and they quote some pretty amazing specs, the most interesting being that they provide a 12 stop dynamic range (latitude) over an ISO range of 25 to 200. I can't explain why the sample you saw looked so bad, what aspect of the image quality most displeased you?
