I think it's pretty disgraceful that the film made a Pole the villain. Had it not been for the Poles, it's arguable that we might have lost the war. I'm not forgetting that the Yanks played a small part, too :-).

Not only did the Poles bring the first Enigma machine to Britain, but their fighter squadron was the most successful of all during the Battle of Britain, which was the make-or-break battle of the whole war.

The Poles still blame the Brititsh for failing to go to their aid when Hitler invaded (which we had a treaty obligation to do), and for allowing the Russians to colonise them after the war. I am not sure that we were in a position to do much else, but whatever the rights and wrongs of that, Britain has no cause to do other than thank the Poles for their efforts.
