Same here - I replaced every split-image screen I ever had in my MXs and
LX - with plain matte and fresnel spot. My 1D has a plain screen which I
was going to replace with a matte+fresnel spot until I realised that I
would then have to use centre-weighted metering instead of the evaluative
metering system which I find has been completely faultless. Focussing the
A*85mm using a plain screen is no chore at all.
