the argument doesn't stack up in either direction. It makes no more
(or less) sense to say "AF lenses are optically better than MF lenses"
than it does to say "MF lenses are optically better than AF lenses".
Optical quality is not related to the auto or manual aspect of
focusing, except that it's largely irrelevant if you can't focus
accurately when you want to.
