I found one thing curious: Phil mentioned in two places that an explanation would be elaborated on further "when Pentax supplies an instruction manual"... HMM.

He also says that RAW does not compress losslessly. I knew this was the case for the -D but thought itwas fixed for the -Ds. Am I wrong as usual/expected?

Not sure I know exactly what you mean.

The DS RAW files are a little smaller than the D files due to some form of simple run-length-encoding compression. This is lossless.

Pentax does not do the level of file compression that other manufacturers do with their RAW format files, but the only negative here is the amount of space they take up.
