Good question. And old "rule of thumb" used to be that most lenses are performing at the best between at F.8 - F.11. However, I tend to like lenses that render very sharp photographs (although very shallow DOF) - at least in the ceentre - wide open. Preferably lenses with largest aperture F. 1:2.8 or better. K 2.5/135mm, K 2.8/105, A 2.8/20mm as well as the three limited leses are good examples. Are there more Petnax'es that does this convinsingly?

Recent talk about 28/3.5 and 16-45 zoom performance got me confused. My (probably very much Boris-the-average) belief was that most lenses are optimized at 3 or so stops from their widest aperture. So, for most f/2.8 lenses it would be f/8 or thereabouts. Is it right thing to assume? Or there is something quite basic that escapes me? Unconfuse me, will you please? :) -- Boris
