Oh flippin eck, I'm going to have to move off the Mac soon and find some
other niche system that's still ambling happily along.....
This is bullshit.
I read that very simply as "Symantec wants to make more money from sales of Mac OS X versions of their virus protection software."
37 serious vulnerabilities in the Mac OS X system? compared to how many in Windows XP? What's the level of access for those vulnerabilities and how seriously can the system be compromised? How many have been already closed with the release of the latest Security Update on March 23? What percentage of users of Mac OS X have actually had to clean a virus out of their system, compared to what percentage of Windows XP users?
There is simply no comparison. There are security risks in every operating system. Windows is the worst in history.
Regards the freeware ... I too use several excellent, high quality freeware and shareware applications as part of my daily use of this computer. There's plenty available, and since much of it is from the UNIX/Linux university community, there's a lot of it that is top notch.
But to tout a system as having appeal because you can get a huge lot of free software, particularly when the vast majority of it is junk, is ridiculous and speaks a tremendous nivete regards computer systems.
