Most printers have their own language to describe dodge/burn a print needs to
be subjected to however it's not universal. Consistent results WRT D&B can be
obtained using a film contact mask :-)
Sadly, Kodak discontinued their Pan Masking film before I was able to secure a lifetime supply, and I haven't found a suitable replacement yet....
I read a really interesting masking method using cleared Tri-X Pro sheet film (it has a retouching tooth that can't be beat) and a series of soft artists pencils and the like.
Haven't tried it yet, as I haven't had my darkrom for a few years now (GAWD, I miss my darkroom).
