I use my administrator's account for work, because I want to have access to file vault. Can I use file vault from a user account?
Of course. The only requirement is that when you start FileVault, only ONE account process can be actively logged in.
There's almost never a need to run as an administrator unless you're making system-level settings or configuration changes. Software developers *sometimes* need administrator access because they need access to otherwise protected components when building software, but that's really an exception.
