Nice shot - simple and elegant. I'd like to see a touch more contrast between the seed pods and the shadow, but the simplicity and contrast of natural and man made shapes is great.

I've continued to work on the tonalities of shadow and seed pods since I posted it. The relationship is fragile ... too much in either direction for either of them becomes unnatural looking. This particular rendering has a masked Curves Adjustment layer where I lightened just the red channel in the shadow area ... that had the effect of bringing out more detail and lightening the shadow without throwing the entire tonal balance off.
It's fun to work on these compositions. This one looks best printed fairly large, the web resolution image is a little small to enjoy all the detailed tonalities.
