Actually, I thought that Canon is conspicuous in its absence. Doesn't Canon make 50mm lenses? (I have to believe that Canon does...)

Canon currently makes the EF50mm f/1.4 USM and EF 50mm f/1.8 Mark II. Both are good lenses, the f/1.4 has nicer out of focus rendering and a far better, professional quality lens mount.
Comparing the EF50/1.4 to the Pentax A50/1.4 is interesting. Both are exceptionally good lenses. I tend to prefer the rendering of the Pentax lens at large lens openings, but past f/4 they are virtually impossible to tell apart.
