Over the past year I have posted a couple of times regarding a problem I have
repeatedly had with my PZ-1 and PZ-1p cameras regarding intermittent
scratching of the film. I suspect this type of roller is used on all PZ (Z)
cameras. Between myself and others in this group it was decided these
scratches were caused by a roller on the camera back. This roller helps hold
the film down to assist the initial uptake of film to the spool. Various
cures have been discussed including replacing the roller, bending it, and
grinding it down.

I have had a chance to try theses cures and the scratches generally came back
in time. Recently, after scratching some difficult shots I got radical. I
removed the roller from the camera back. You have to be a little more
careful in putting the film in. Basically you have to be sure the film
sprockets match the notches on the take-up reel. Once the film takes, it
moves through the camera just fine.

I have gotten a couple of rolls back since trying this "fix" and it seems to
have worked.

I cannot say this is a permanent fix but it the best things I have found.
Otherwise I would essentially have a $500 doorstop.
