I'm considering taking the digital plunge probably an *istDs the dilemma concerns the choice of lens.
Namely between the:
Pentax DA 16-45 f/4
vs
Tamron SP AF17-35MM F/2.8-4 Di------
The DA 16-45 is excellent. At 16 mm. it outperforms the DA 14 f2.8. But if you are using film also, consider the superb FA 20-35 f4. It slightly outperforms the DA 16-45 (and that is saying a lot). It is wonderful on either film or digital.
I am finding that when I do controlled tests and look at actual pixels, Pentax lenses outperform comparable lenses from the third-party manufacturers. Remember, there has to be a way that third-party manufacturers gain their price advantage.
When I got my D I figured that I would still shoot film. Guess what? I haven't shot any since September 2003. When you get your DS you may find that you are no longer as interested in wide angle for film.
