Well, if you consider immigrants and invaders the same thing (grin).

Actually immigrants (people looking to join a different culture) are a fairly recent thing. Invaders (people looking to impose their culture on others) are a far older thing. And even older is one people pushing another people out of their homes because yet another people, or natural envents, were pushing them out of theirs.

I kind of meant the kind of immigrants who fly home to the family every year or 
so. Before WWII (or even 1960 or so), the people who moved to the US did so 
permanently, and may never have returned to where they came from even for a 
visit. And they came here looking for freedom, rather than trying to make a 
fortune so they could return and be a wealthy person where they came from. They 
wanted to be Americans, rather than to exploit Americans. Of course if you are 
looking for personal freedom (as opposed to political freedom, and it looks 
like soon for that too) there are several better choices than the US nowadays.
