Has there been a claim that the F is > better optically? I believe so. Some have touted the F 70-210 for even having an "undocumented" ED element, even. I'm doing this strictly from memory, but I believe that some think the lens is really great, and some think it is so-so. There has been talk of a large sample-to-sample variance in this model (possible, I guess). As for other than sheer optical qualities - The F lens is considerably lighter. The autofocus abilities of the F lens are infinitely better than those of the A lens - <g>. The A lens is obviously faster (except right at 70mm). "Zoom creep", for me, is never an issue with one-touch zooms, which I am almost always using hand-held (heck, if I'm taking the time to use a tripod, I'm probably also taking the time to use a prime lens), and where I like "zooming quickness" in a one-touch zoom (which probably increases the chance of it being subject to "zoom creep").
