Koran has become Quran or Q'ran or Qu'ran. We need an Academie Arabaise to sort it all out.

I remember a news item many years ago about this. Seems that he always signed
stuff in Arabic, so nobody (in the West) knew how he'd want it written in the
Latin alphabet. The K-spelling and G-spellings date from then.
Then one day he wrote a letter in English to some school children, and his
name was typed at the end of it. And that version started with a Q. So at
least some news organizations decided to start using that spelling, since it
was apparently sanctioned by the man himself.
I do not recall if the story addressed the question of how his name was
written on official documents when he was studying in Britain (isn't he a
Sandhurst alumnus?)
