That's the model we've been discussing. A real slug, apparently. So boring that its drivers risk falling asleep at the wheel with fatal consequences ;-)
The front drives were the previous generation of American developed vehicles. They followed GM's head office mandate that passenger vehicles up to a certain size category were to be front wheel drive. Australia escaped that ruling because we at one time sourced the design of our large sedans from Opel in Germany rather than from America. The current cars have evolved into something very different from their Opel ancestors, but it means that the family resemblance is to the German line-up rather than the American. I've seen an mpeg of that race I think. Did you post the link to the list a year or so ago? It was a drifting competition, not a race, at Laguna Seca. Quite insane! AFAIK there were never any front drive GTOs, the name was temporarily retired before fwd became a requirement for some models. The last Grand Prix was front drive, I believe. regards, Anthony Farr > -----Original Message----- > From: John Francis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, 21 April 2005 3:26 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: Hurrah for Shel Disrobing the Emperor > > Anthony Farr mused: > > > > The damage to Pontiac had already been inflicted by the front-drivers, which > > muscle car purists apparently hated. > > Some GTOs ended up with rear wheel drive: > > <http://www.jfwaf.com/temp/GTO.jpg>
