I personally like the birds; I think they add a bit to the sense of abandonment by humans, but each to their own. The reason for the original pic being a bit skew-whiff was because I had (inadvertently) put up the birds as I approached, and hurriedly fired off a shot while they were still in view. There was spray in the air, and I didn't want to linger. It was the only shot I took.

I think you've captured the sad, forlorn look very well. I also agree with you that the muted colours are important; the picture just doesn't work for me in B&W.

But, there again, I prefer it without the birds - standing
alone and forgotten.  Most others, however, seem to disagree.
