You know, I was doing just fine resisting this lens and contenting
myself with my old M40 2.8. Then some do-gooder has to start this
thread about getting nice results and before I know it I'm hitting the
"submit" button on the B&H check-out page. So instead of a new zoom or
something useful I now have a second version of the pancake.

The lens came in yesterday. It's nice having the AF but the exposure
part is nice. I really like normal lenses and this is nearly perfect on
the *istDS. A quick comparison of identical shots with the M40 and the
DA 40 look the same when zoomed up close so they do appear to be the
same optical formula. The little convex hood is neat but that little
screw on lens cap is funky. This lens on the DS makes a very compact
walking around kit so I'm pretty happy with it. I probably should sell
the old one.
