I'm one of the lucky ones, I guess. I design and write software for a living. I do it for "fun", too. I'd do it if "retired". It just suits me. Besides, I'm a lazy s***. Some of the stuff computers do best is exactly the sort of drudgery people shouldn't have to do. Like statistics and data analysis. I'm a freak for that stuff. Useful data sets, though, are not amenable to paper and pencil. Especially _my_ paper and pencil. :-)
I've been programming since 13. First calculator, then proper computer. I am professional programmer with MSc in computer science since 1996. It used to be fun, but no longer.
You're probably luckier than me in this respect, Doug...
I do love to take photos though...
