The trouble with marine animals is that as soon as you try to start
using environmental techniques to slow them down the animal contracts
and no longer looks like you want it to.  Animals with shells go inside
and lock the door.  Slugs pull in gills and so forth and roll into a
ball.  Crabs can sit in 70% alcohol for 5 minutes blowing bubbles and
waving at you before they then contract.

Techniques with frozen formalin or epson salts may work to keep the
animal out, but it doesn't look like it should afterwards.  This is why
I have stuck to live photography.
