it isn't profitable now for the big 5. Olympus doesn't make one. film SLR body sales for 2004 were down to about 30% of what they were only three or four years ago. that should drop to half that within a year.

A bit dramatic, but it raises an interesting question.  Given the used
equipment market, how long will it be profitable for the bigger
companies to make film cameras?  The Nikon F6 is an interesting case.
And, can smaller companies arise that make smaller batches of very
expensive "custom"  film cameras?
