A softer image was not wanted. It was specifically intended to look, as you say, "overdone." The bright area is intended to be just as it is. The crop and framing is exactly the way it was envisioned. Whether you care for it or not is, of course, a very personal thing. The image was made to create a certain feeling and to tell a certain tell a certain story. A few people got it, most didn't, which is what I expected.
