Hi!
Got back from Kingston last night, and the show's up. Had to give it a title (they wanted one of those silly "Artist's Statements" to go up on the wall. I didn't want to argue with them that I'm not an artist...), so I settled on "A Second of Spontaneity". Thirty photos at maybe 1/30th of a second (or faster) each amounts to less than a second of total elapsed time, hence the corny title.
Anyway, the putting up was easy. My youngest daughter, Claire, was with me helping. We then sat back had a coffee (she had hot apple cider) and scones and were both amazed at the number of people who took time to look at the photos.
This cafe is packed on Sunday mornings, so there was lots of viewing
traffic. Many of the people who were attentively looking had come in
after we had finished installing, so didn't know that I was the
photographer; it was cool to hear them complimenting the work. Claire especially got a real charge out of it! <vbg>
I don't know how many I'll sell; I don't really have high expectations, but I must say it's really a charge to see stuff up in a public space, and see total strangers who seem to get something out of just looking.
I think that's ultimate fun of photographer - to hear stranger's feedback whilst strangers have no idea the photographer is amongst them :).
Have a great time, Frank!!!
Boris
