5. If she said you can't bring the *istD with you, sell it along with all your lenses, to finance the purchase of a DigiRebel and a couple of lenses, and bring those along. There's no prohibition against that, AFAIK. In the bargain, you'll then possess a real camera, and you'll look really really "pro".
