I too remember my FA*85 (sold) didn't AF very fast, and slower than my FA77 
(based
on my fading memory). The newer version (3 helicoid guide plate) of FA77 has
particularly light focus ring (compared to those with 2 helicoid guide plate 
only),
and almost feels no mass.
