I know the metal vs plastic debates are almost as consuming as the ones
on film vs digital, and no final answer is possible, but I will chime
in here and say I am very glad I went plastic.

For 35 years, I had a Spotmatic, very well built, but heavy, and I
think the metal actually shows wear more readily than plastic. I
missed all kinds of photographs for the simple reason I didn't have a
camera with me -- I got tired of lugging the thing and its lenses
around. I got a very plastic Pentax IQZoom 140 (mediocre and
overpriced, IMO), which after 5 years of fairly regular use had not a
mark on it. Then I got the *ist 35mm last year, and it has held up
very well.

A small and light plastic camera is a joy for me to handle and operate,
and consequently I am more likely to have the camera with me when I
want it.
