I didn't actually kill it, but I did seriously wound it.

I slipped while climbing down from a photo tower, and my camera
came into contact with a substantial fence post (think telegraph
pole).  The MZ-S body went one way, and the 250-600 went an other
way, still with the lens mount attached (rather bent, by now).

A quick trip to Colorado restored it to full health, albeit at
a price which was a significant portion of what a new camera
would have cost me (and slightly less than the deductible on
my insurance policy).
