Yes one summer in the car can destroy (turn to goo) foam seals in the camera. Actual experience with an ME Super that had all the foam replace the year previously. I did not have any problems with the film in the camera however.
A car in full sunlight can hit 160�F during the hottest part of the day. Thats more like 70�C. 50C is pretty optimistic, or else the original poster lives near a rain forest.
