Hi Alan,
I'm about 10 miles south of downtown Santa Cruz, and down here we have three different places (that I know of) that roast their own:
Pacific Coffee Roasting: http://www.santacruzguide.com/page.cgi/pages/970192/97019211.html Aptos Coffee Roasting: http://www.santacruzguide.com/page.cgi/pages/970158/97015815.html Surf City Coffee: http://www.surfcitycoffee.com/
All are good, with maybe Pacific having a slight edge.
Maybe you, Godfrey, and I could get together for a mini Santa Cruz PDML meet (or at least a cup of coffee).

I'm actually going to be in Caulifornia (near Santa Cruz) for the next two weeks. Any good tips on getting good coffee? I've got a pound of my own roasted up and ready to go, but any more would go beyond mere fanaticism, besides getting a little old by the end of the trip :-)
A group get together sounds like a good idea. I might end up getting pretty buzzed on a one to one basis.
