Hi all,
yes, I won a local auction for an FA* 80-200 f2.8. There is only a small speck (+- 1mm) on the front lens I cannot remove. I guess this won't influence image quality.
Now I'm wondering what power-zoom functions work on my MZ-5n. Boz's site mentions auto-retract and power zoom. Powerzoom works, auto-retract nothing happens, I guess this is normal with this lens (IF system).
The PZ/AZ/mode switch doesn't stay clicked in mode, is this normal? It does click in PZ and AZ, although there seems to be no difference between te two on my MZ-5n.
What does the button next to the PZ/AZ/mode switch do?
Tonight I'll be taking some evening/night pictures in the beautiful city of Delft (duh, I live there). The number of US tourists in town tell me it is nearly summer ;-))
On the ZX-5n, I found that teh auto-retract feature *does* work when shooting with an SMC Pentax-FA* 28-70mm f/2.8. I haven't shot with the 80-200 f/2.8; does it actually extend when you zoom/focus it? If not, perhaps that's why the auto-retract feature isn't activated. The goal of that feature is to make the lens as small as possible when you turn off the camera.
The mode switch is spring loaded so 'mode' setting behaves like a computer keyboard key; push and release, as opposed to a toggle switch. (a rough analogy). It sounds like yours is fine.
The ZX-5n has a Kaf2 mount with PowerZoom contacts, so it supports power zooming. But by the time Pentax came out with the ZX-5n, they were retreating from the power zoom features, and the ZX-5n does not support auto-zoom or zoom-clip features. Yes, the lens will power zoom, no, it won't do anything more advanced than that.
If the zoom were mounted on a PZ-1p (or a PZ-20, I think), it will function with all of its power zoom features, including a feature where it automatically adjusts its focal length to keep the subject the same size. There is also a feature where the zoom will help to trigger the shutter release when an object somes into some preselected focus distance. I can't remember what the other PZ functions are mostly because they're only relevant on a small number of Pentax bodies.
