Hi Bill -

Thanks for the comment - in regards to your questions - no extension was use. The there is some cropping, but with 1.5x life-sized the A*200 does a nice job at it's closest focus.

I have tried to stop using flash for dragonflies and some other subjects. In this case I tried a few shots at ISO 400 without flash, but the shutter speed at f16 dropped below 1/10th of a second. As I mentioned in my comment to Ken, for flies I like to bring out the reflectivity in their bodies - vs some other insects (like powdery/hairy butterflies) where there is no reflectivity to bring out.

I went to using a monopod with the *ist-D last summer. Without it I don;t get sharp images, even at very high shutter speeds - with the AF360FGZ I can shoot at 1/1000, f16, ISO 400 and get the same characteristics as I would get with ISO 100 film and 1/250, f16 with the Pz-1p. - but I still do not get the sharpness I expect. I get a definite 'ghost image" to the shot. So I now use the monopod to increase stability.

I suspect that I got the ghost images on film, but due to the relatively low acuatance it was not as obvious. I was never able to get clear detail in the insects' eyes with film, but I do get that with the *ist-D. I probably should try shooting with the monopod and film and see if I could of done better in the past.

Looks like Mark is starting to get the hang of this...... ;-)

Questions: Are you you using any extension here? You indicated that you had
stopped using flash, have you reconsidered that? And, I'm curious about the
monopod for marco....
