It looks as though everybody is reducing prices like crazy, and/or
flushing out the low-end model within each size bracket. My wife
has been eying a Viewsonic 19" model, with speakers, for use when
she brings her work laptop home. It's been $449 for some time, but
today it was on one-day special at Fry's for $269 (after rebates).
It's VGA-style analog only (no digital connector), and a somewhat
slower response than the latest models, which is just fine for her
use (spreadsheets and the like on a laptop), but definitely old-style
when you look at the current crop of computer systems.

[Yes - we did get one. It's amazing how much bigger a 19" screen looks
vs. the 15" screen on her notebook. That should keep her quiet for
a while, but she really wants one of the 23" cinema displays]
