Carlos, here's the good news, looking at the manual has jogged
my memory as to problems I've had with flash on the MX.
Here's the bad news, they're not fond memories. :-(
There are 3 things involved in "X" sync on the MX:
1. The little connection board behind the M and X PC sockets.
2. The M sync switch.
3. The X sync switch.

All of these are located behind the lens mount and can be
accessed readily if this is removed.
Unfortunately this means removing the bottom cover (easy),
the top cover (not easy) and the leatherette (easy).
If you wish to be adventurous I'll be happy to post a link
to the service manual in PDF format.
It's not a great deal of help though, Pentax SM's assume
that you already know "how it works" and are just a basic
guide to adjustments, wiring, and such.

I have downloaded the service manual some minutes ago. I will study it, but I think that removing the lens mount and some other parts only in order to repair the hot shoe issue is too much for me, especially when both cameras work well, except with the flash, and I am not likely to use much flash with the MXs.
Thanks for your help and advice,

Carlos
