First, allow me to say that, overall, I agree with your assessment, although I don't find the background as objectionable as you and some others seem to. I don't care for it too much, either ;-)) I've already softened the background using the Lens Blur filter in PS CS. Not sure that I care for what I did, but it was the first time trying the filter. Moving to B&W should be simple enough, although I don't think it'll help this pic very much. Still, there's a new to me technique that I want to try, so this may be as good an image to practice on as any. I also want to try a tighter crop, concentrate on her face and hads, see what comes of it. Being able to make adjustments, and even manipulate, images in PS has been a fine learning tool.
